There is an ongoing decline in the market for virtual and augmented reality headsets, reports the analytics company IDC. They found that in the first quarter of 2024, 67.4% fewer VR/AR headsets were sold compared to the beginning of 2023.

The leader in VR/AR headset shipments for the quarter was Meta*. It held a 37.2% market share. Following were Apple (17%), ByteDance (11.9%), Xreal (9.4%), and HTC (3.9%).
