There is an ongoing decline in the market for virtual and augmented reality headsets, reports the analytics company IDC. They found that in the first quarter of 2024, 67.4% fewer VR/AR headsets were sold compared to the beginning of 2023.

How many units that amounts to was not disclosed by the analysts. Journalists from Telecoms calculated that sales might have totaled just 300,000 devices.

The leader in VR/AR headset shipments for the quarter was Meta*. It held a 37.2% market share. Following were Apple (17%), ByteDance (11.9%), Xreal (9.4%), and HTC (3.9%).
