In 2017, sales of Google Daydream View VR headsets will grow to 2.2 million units, according to the forecast of the research company IHS Markit.
Nevertheless, Samsung Gear VR, which analysts predicted sales of 4.1 million copies, will remain the market leader of virtual reality devices this year.
According to the results of 2016, Gear VR became the leader in global sales of virtual reality devices — 4.3 million headsets were sold worldwide.
IHS Markit believes that the promotion of Gear VR will become more targeted this year.
“Samsung is weakening its advertising campaign, previously focused on sales of flagship smartphones bundled with Gear VR,” said Piers Harding—Rolls, head of gaming research at IHS Markit’s.
Analysts believe that the spread of Google DayDream View will depend on how quickly smartphone manufacturers adapt their devices to the high hardware requirements imposed by the platform.
