Epic Games continues to file antitrust lawsuits. The company has simultaneously filed complaints against Samsung and Google in a U.S. court, accusing them of collusion and attempting to protect the Google Play Store from competition.
Fortnite
The primary grievance of Epic Games is the auto-blocking feature that appeared on Samsung devices late last year. This feature allows users to install applications only from authorized sources, such as Google Play and Galaxy Store.
Epic Games noted that Samsung is the largest smartphone manufacturer using the Android operating system, which means the company could have easily reached an agreement with Google. According to the creators of Fortnite, in July 2024, a month before the mobile version of the Epic Games Store was released, the company deliberately made it more difficult to disable the auto-blocking feature, making it a default function.
It is not mentioned whether Epic Games attempted to include its store in Samsung’s "whitelist."
In a media statement, Epic Games noted that in addition to the U.S. lawsuit, it plans to report the companies' anticompetitive actions to the European Commission.
Google has not yet commented on Epic Games' lawsuit. Samsung told Reuters they plan to "vigorously challenge the baseless claims of Epic Games."
