The analytics company Circana reported on the state of the U.S. gaming market in July and identified the games most purchased by American gamers.

EA Sports College Football 25

  • In July, U.S. residents spent $4.77 billion on video games, gaming hardware, and accessories, 10% more than the previous year.
  • Video game sales accounted for $4.26 billion (+10%), hardware sales were $326 million (+12%), and accessory sales were $184 million (+4%).
  • Among premium games, the top bestseller in July was EA Sports College Football 25. Analysts noted that it earned three times more in its debut month than NCAA Football 07, the previous leader among collegiate American football simulators in U.S. revenue.
  • EA Sports College Football 25 also topped sales in the U.S. since the start of 2024, knocking Helldivers 2 from the top spot.
  • The second place in the July sales chart was taken by the EA Sports MVP Bundle, which includes deluxe editions of EA Sports College Football 25 and EA Sports Madden NFL 25. Following in the top 5 were Elden Ring, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, and Minecraft.

  • In July, Fortnite ranked first for the number of monthly active players on PlayStation 5. On Xbox Series, Call of Duty HQ led in this metric, while on Steam it was Elden Ring.
  • Among consoles, PlayStation 5 performed the best in July, outselling other consoles both in dollar sales and units.
  • PlayStation Portal remained the best-selling gaming accessory of the month in dollar terms. In unit sales, the wireless DualSense Midnight Black controller continued to lead.
