In 2019, the turnover of the Russian video game market reached $2 billion. In annual terms, this is an increase of 15%. Analysts note that in terms of dynamics, it has approached the pace of global industry growth. In general, in 2014-2018, turnover in the Russian Federation increased annually by an average of 20-25%.

  • The most profitable category of games is frituplay. It accounts for 47% of turnover, that is, $940 million. Its revenue increased by 4% compared to 2018.
  • There is data on segments as well. Mobile is the fastest growing of them: in annual terms, it increased by 29% and reached $700 million. Mobile games account for 34% of the Russian turnover of video games.
  • Consoles have grown by 19% over the same time. In 2019, this segment brought $240 million to the market.

The largest brands

Analysts have compiled a list of companies and games with the highest revenue in the Russian Federation. They are also leaders in the number of financial transactions and the volume of the audience.

  • The largest companies are Valve (thanks to Steam), Wargaming, Mail.Ru , Sony, Riot Games, digital stores Origin and 4game. The Russian audience is also gradually being conquered by the Chinese giant Tencent.
  • The most profitable titles are named World of Tanks, Fortnite, Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII, League of Legends, Dota 2, FIFA 19 and Honor of Kings.

Player demographics

  • According to Yandex, the average age of a Russian player is 36 years.
  • 60% of men and 39% of women prefer PC games. Console versions are played by 21% of men and 13% of women. Note that gamers can own both a PC and a console at the same time.

Player spending

  • The average income per player increased by 11% to $41 (2.4 thousand rubles). Every month he makes an average of three in-game purchases and pays streamers three times for donat. It takes him $15-$85 (1-5 thousand rubles) for all this.
  • Over the past six months, 81% of paying gamers have bought various in-game products.
  • At the same time, the average transaction size decreased by 2.7%. Now it is $7 (451 rubles).
  • Yandex associates a slight decrease in the volume of transactions with an increase in the number of annual purchases per player (it increased by 14% over the year). Transactions were also influenced by the fact that the Russian audience is increasingly interested in free play and free trial versions of games.
