Announced in December, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous successfully launched on Kickstarter. Backers funded the crowdfunding campaign of the game from the Russian Owlcat Games in just a day.
Is $300 thousand per day a lot or a little?
This is a great result. Moreover, on the second day Pathfinder has already gained almost $ 500 thousand. At this rate, the game at the end of the month can attract $ 3-4 million. However, for comparison, the first Pillars of Eternity, which performed in the same niche, raised money a little faster (by the end of the second day of the campaign, she already had the first million).
But there are games that raise money even faster on Kickstarter. For example, the recently announced The Wonderful 101: Remastered raised $1 million in less than 16 hours.
Why does the game “score” so well?
First: successful previous experience in attracting and disbursing funds. Three years ago Owlcat Games has already launched a Kickstarter campaign. Then it was about Pathfinder: Kingmaker. In a month, the team raised $ 900 thousand and released a high-quality product, which was polished a year after the release.
Second: Pathfinder: Kingmaker has been successful within its niche. According to SteamSpy, the game has 500 thousand to 1 million users on Steam alone. This is comparable to the more hyped Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire and more than the sensational Tyranny a few years ago.
Third: the game is based on the popular tabletop role-playing Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.
What is Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous game?
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is not a direct sequel to Kingmaker. The developers promise “another story from the Age of Lost Omens universe.” Players will travel through the demon-occupied realm. This will once again be a classic isometric RPG for PC. Its release is scheduled for 2021.
The development is headed by creative director Alexander Mishulin, he has been in the industry for 20 years and participated in projects such as Heroes of Might and Magic V, Allods Online and Skyforge. He also participates in the development Chris Avellone, designer of Fallout 2, Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale, Fallout: New Vegas and many other role-playing blockbusters.
Something else?
This time Owlcat Games creates its game outside of the MY.GAMES game structure. The studio withdrew from its membership in October. Nevertheless, it is known that MY.GAMES has remained a strategic partner and investor for the developer.
