Swedish publisher Starbreeze is investing $ 12 million in the creation of a third part of the sci-fi role-playing game System Shock and will receive 50% of the profits from its sales on PC other platforms.

“System Shock is one of those iconic franchises in the history of video games that makes my heart beat faster, and Warren Spector is one of the founding fathers of modern action and role—playing games,” said Bo Andersson-Klint, CEO of Starbreeze.

At the same time, the intellectual property rights of the System Shock series will be retained by the American developer Otherside Entertainment. Under the terms of the deal, after Starbreeze’s investments pay off by 120% (together with marketing costs), the investor will receive half of the money from future sales of System Shock 3.

Previously, Starbreeze invested $ 8 million in Psychonauts 2 on the condition that they will receive 80% of the profit from sales of the game until they reimburse the amount of investment, and then another 60% of the remaining sales of Psychonauts 2.
