Post-Apocalypse has become the fastest growing setting by revenue in the US, according to Sensor Tower. In the first three months of 2020, mobile gaming revenues in this segment doubled.Note: For its research, Sensor Tower analyzed the 100 highest-grossing mobile titles in the United States for the first three quarters of 2020, dividing them into several categories: setting, artistic style and type of perspective.
Settingin the first three quarters of 2020, the revenues of mobile games in the post-apocalypse setting amounted to $384 million (an increase of 106% year-on-year).
- This allowed projects in this category to significantly outpace other settings in terms of growth rates.;the most successful titles in this setting were State of Survival and Last Shelter: Survival;
- there is also a big increase in modern (revenue increased by 51% and amounted to $3.7 billion) and historical (growth by 45%, $739 million) settings.

Artistic style
games made in retro/low-poly style showed the greatest growth in the first three quarters of 2020, earning $672 million (95% more in annual terms);
- other popular styles are 3D anime and realistic 3D.
- The revenue of these games for three quarters amounted to $323 million (an increase of 84% compared to the same period last year) and $1.7 billion (an increase of 54%), respectively;2D cartoons turned out to be the most profitable art style among all mobile projects – in three quarters, games in this category earned $6.8 billion (revenue growth by 38% year-on-year);
- at the same time, not all categories showed growth.

Type of perspective
games with a third-person perspective have proven to be the fastest growing category in mobile over the past three quarters.
- These projects generated $1.4 billion in revenue (increased by 53% year-on-year);the main drivers of growth in the category of third-person games were PUBG Mobile and Fortnite;
- titles with a changing perspective took the second place in terms of growth, earning $1.6 billion (revenue increased by 50% year-on-year);
- the top three are closed by games with an isometric perspective.
- In the first three quarters of 2020, projects in this category earned $5 billion (an increase of 44% compared to the same period last year);also in the top five were projects with a first-person perspective (an increase of 43%) and with a side view (an increase of 36%).
- According to analysts from Sensor Tower, dividing mobile games into similar categories can help companies track market trends and look at competitors’ results from a new angle.
