By 2021, the gaming industry will grow to $200 billion with a cumulative annual growth rate of 7.9%.

This is stated in the quarterly report of the analytical company Digital Capital.

The study points to the difference in the dynamics of the development of different branches of the video game business, depending on their volume: the giant sectors of mobile games and MMO projects are growing slowly, at the same time, the young areas of VR and AR are progressing much faster.

The pace of development of the mobile gaming segment may slow down to 14.5% per year, which by 2021 will give a turnover of $ 80 billion. For comparison, this is more than the turnover of the entire video game market in 2010.

The revenues of MMO, MOBA and console games by 2021 will amount to approximately $30 billion for each of the market segments.

Sales of PC gaming equipment will be in the region of $20-30 billion by 2021. Gaming console market revenues are projected to be in the range of $10-15 billion by the same date.

The turnover of the VR device industry is expected to reach around $7 billion by 2021. Recall that in 2016 the same figure was 1.5 billion.

Augmented reality (AR) games and programs will generate $7 billion in 2021 if they can enter the mass market with the help of Google, Apple and Facebook over the next 12 months.

In 2017, 40% of the global turnover of the video game industry is accounted for by the leading Asian countries — China, Japan and South Korea. North America and Western Europe account for 25% each, with the remainder coming from Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.

In addition, in 2017, the video game industry attracted a record amount of investment — $2.8 billion, with the VR/AR industry accounting for a third of this amount, and mobile games — about a quarter.
