In the first half of the year, sales of Sony’s Games and Network Services division increased by 131% to $6.9 billion compared to the same period last year.
This is reported in Sony’s report on the results of the second quarter and the first half of the 2017 fiscal year (it began on April 1, 2017 and will end on March 30, 2018).
Quarterly sales of Games and Network Services also increased by 39.2% compared to last year — from $2.8 billion to $3.9 billion.
The operating income of the division in the 2nd quarter increased by 288% and reached $484 million.
The corporation noted the significant contribution of sales of PlayStation 4 games and consoles themselves to the financial results over the past 3 months.
For the 2nd quarter of 2017, Sony shipped 4.2 million PlayStation 4 consoles, bringing the total number of consoles in stores or in the hands of users to 67.5 million units.
Sony’s total revenue in the 2nd quarter of 2017 amounted to $18.25 billion, and the corporation’s operating income for the same period increased by 364% to $1.8 billion compared to the same period last year.
