The new isometric role-playing game of the Russian team Owlcat Games shows excellent results during the crowdfunding campaign. Since its launch on February 4, the project has attracted a million dollars.
The goal of the campaign is to collect $ 300 thousand — the game completed on the first day. By the way, the novelty has collected more on Kickstarter than Pathfinder: Kingmaker, the studio’s previous game. The fees of the latter three years ago amounted to $ 909 thousand. Before her, no Russian project had “raised” comparable amounts on Kickstarter.
As for Wrath of the Righteous, he not only sets a new record, but can seriously raise the bar in general. The project still has 27 days left until the end of the campaign. Now the game collects more slowly than in the first days, but it seems quite real that it will reach the $2-2.5 million mark. This amount is comparable to those who, with the help of crowdfunding, recruited other isometric role-playing games:
- Project Eternity — $3.9 million;
- Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire — $4.4 million;
- Torment: Tides of Numenera — $4.1 million;
- Wasteland 2 — $2.9 million;
- Wasteland 3 — $3.1 million
As we wrote earlier, the success of the Wrath of the Righteous campaign may be due to a number of factors. This is both a successful previous experience of mastering funds (as a result of the last campaign, the developers released a high—quality game, which they continue to support a year after the release), and the big name of the license (Pathfinder is a popular Western board game).
Such indicators, as well as the recent success of Disco Elysium, indicate that isometric role-playing games are still in demand, remain an actual and in-demand niche.
The release of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is tentatively scheduled for June 2021.
