The highest-grossing game in April was the Japanese Monster Strike, whose income was higher than such blockbusters as Clash Royale and Clash of Clans.
The research company Superdata told about this last Friday in its report on digital sales of games.
Mobile
Monster Strike has won the title of the highest-grossing mobile game in April in the world, earning $138 million in 30 days. The main income most likely came from the Japanese market native to the game. The project, we recall, is a classic strapping buttler with simplified billiards mechanics.
Clash Royale revenues decreased in April (in the second month of the global release). SuperData explains this by normalizing sales of the latest Supercell hit.
As for Clash of Clans, it has faced a serious drop in revenue in recent months: from $5 million a day to $4 million. Analysts see the reason not in the release of Clash Royale, but in the decline in interest in the game, which was released almost four years ago.
Together, they scored just over $200 million. A month earlier, their total income was $251 million.
PC
The record-holder of sales in the market of digital premium games for PC turned out to be Dark Souls III, which earned more here than on consoles. The latest Bandai Namco title earned $45 million on PC, and $27 million on consoles.
Amazing for a blockbuster, especially with console roots.
Analysts see the reason for the good performance of the game in the fact that the publisher and the developer took into account the mistakes of their previous releases of the series. This time the game turned out to be well optimized for PC.
Consoles
Digital sales of all games for April amounted to $6.2 billion. This is 5% more than a year earlier. The main driver of growth, as a month ago, is console games.
Over the year, sales of digital copies of console products in monetary terms increased by 23%. Their audience has grown slightly less – by 15%.
The leader of sales in April on consoles was Call of Duty: Black Ops III.
Social networks
The social gaming segment is the only gaming segment whose revenues fell in April 2016 compared to the same period a year earlier. Its sales in monetary terms decreased by 10%.
The DoubleDown Casino game earned the most in this market over the past April.
