MMO accounts for 60% of earnings from the PC gaming market. 89% of MMO revenue comes from the shareware distribution model (free-to-play).
In total, the MMO market on PC this year will reach $19.8 billion, which is 13% more than a year earlier. This is the assessment of the research company Superdata, which published a report on this gaming segment yesterday. By the way, a large share of revenues will fall on the Asian market – $ 12.6 billion.
One of the most popular MMO trends today is MOBA. This segment will earn $3 billion this year. Most of it – $1.8 billion – will fall on League of Legends. In other words, Riot Games earns about $150 million a month. For comparison, the most successful MMORPG with a World of WarCraft subscription today will earn $198 million in a year. Monthly revenues of the mobile Clash Royale, recall, amount to about $ 110 million.
Some interesting facts from the study:
- more than a third of MMO gamers have been playing the project for more than a year and a half before leaving it;
- 84% of players make a payment in the first month of the game;
- 34% of players say that they leave the title if their friends do so;
- 58% of MMO players learn about new games from friends and family;
- the average number of MMO sessions per week is 5;
- the average session length is 1.9 hours;
- 70% of players play two or more MMOs at the same time.
