This January, $8.4 billion was spent on digital versions of games.  This is less than a year earlier for the same period.

This is reported by SuperData in its latest report. According to her, the market for paid PC games fell the most — by 29%. At the same time, the fall also affected the console games market. Despite a number of strong Christmas and January releases, it declined by 3%.

SuperData also reports:

  • Fortnite sales in January decreased by 48% compared to December 2018. At the same time, compared to January last year, the revenue of the game has increased.
  • January revenues of the beta version of Red Dead Redemption 2 Online were 14% less than a month earlier. At the same time , the total revenue Red Dead Redemption 2 Online and GTA V Online turned out to be on par with last year’s GTA V Online figures.
  • At Super Smash Bros. Ultimate January sales were 83% less than December. Analysts explain this drop by higher than usual starting sales and linking the game’s performance to Switch’s Christmas sales. Super Smash Bros. In-game Payments Ultimate rose in January.
  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive showed an 8% increase in monthly audience compared to last year due to the transition to frituplay in November. However, this was not converted into sales.
