The classic saga from Rockstar North about the misadventures of CJ in California continues to enjoy success 12 years after its release. According to the results of the first half of 2016, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas turned out to be one of the leaders in revenue among paid applications in the App Store and Google Play.

This is stated in the App Annie App Monetization Report study, which provides data on the highest-grossing mobile projects by type of business model for the first half of 2016.

The top three of the highest-grossing shareware projects looked like this:

  • Monster Strike;
  • Clash of Clans;
  • Game of War – Fire Age.

Top three paid projects without internal payments:

  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas;
  • Facetune;
  • Terraria.

Top three paid projects with internal payments (App Annie named them paidmium):

  • Minecraft Pocket Edition;
  • Minecraft: Story Mode;
  • Ghost Blows Out the Light 3D.

The study also predicts that mobile games will earn their publishers $104.4 billion in 2020.
