The list of billionaire games has been replenished. The elite club includes Summoners War, a game from the Korean developer Com2uS.
This is reported in an interview with David Mohr, CEO at Gamevil Com2uS Europe, on the GamesIndustry pages.
The three-dimensional battler, in which the player collects decks of monsters for battles in dungeons, went to the coveted figure for three years. It was released in the summer of 2014.
The success of the game is notable for the fact that most of the money earned comes from earnings outside South Korea. For Asian mobile games, this is, so far, the exception rather than the rule. For example, the main cash register of Japanese projects is usually brought by the native market.
The fact that the project will gain $1 billion this year was clear back in the spring, when Com2uS announced that its project had earned $780 million since its release. Moreover, from March 2016 to March 2017, the game’s earnings amounted to $ 280 million.

In the financial report for the second quarter of this year (April-June), Com2uS reported the global earnings of Summoners War at $890 million.
Now the game has $1 billion and more than 80 million installations.
Mohr noted in an interview that the team is not going to rest on its laurels. To maintain interest in the product, Com2uS has introduced realtime combat into the game with an asynchronous combat system.
He also announced the company’s plans to hold a large tournament on Summoners War – 2017 Summoners War World Arena Championship – with a prize fund of $ 150 thousand. It is not necessary to talk about an esports discipline yet, but the Korean publisher has similar ambitions.
Com2uS is not only developing the current project, but is also working on expanding the billion-dollar IP. In the spring, the company announced a mobile MMORPG in the Summoners War universe, which will be released in the first half of next year.
MMORPG based on the Summoners War universeBy the way, according to PocketGamer, taking into account Summoners War, only 11 mobile games earned $ 1 billion.
In addition to developing Com2uS, the lucky list includes: Puzzle & Dragons, Clash of Clans, Candy Crush Saga, Disney Tsum Tsum, Game of War: Fire Age, Monster Strike, Mobile Strike, Honor of Kings, Clash Royale and Pokémon Go.
