Investors continue to believe in AR and VR. For the period from April 2017 to March 2018, they invested $3.6 billion in developers of such software. This is a record amount for the segment.

The top five deals accounted for half of the specified amount.

  • Magic Leap AR glasses raised $502 million and $461 million in two rounds;
  • Improbable, a platform for building virtual worlds, raised $502 million;
  • The Unity engine received a transfer of $400 million in May last year;
  • The authors of Pokemon GO from Niantic were able to raise $ 200 million.

In contrast to the total amount of investments, the number of transactions themselves has decreased. The number of companies willing to invest in games has decreased. Despite this, games and technologies still account for the majority of contracts — 10%.
