The controversial MMO shooter Anthem from BioWare in its debut month turned out to be more commercially successful than Apex Legends from Respawn Entertainment.
This is reported by the analytical company SuperData in the latest report on the state of the digital video game market last month. According to her data:
- Apex Legends earned $92 million in February. From a financial point of view, this is the best start of a free-to-play product in the history of video games. Most of the earnings came from consoles.
- Despite such a significant result of Apex Legends, Anthem collected more. Its digital sales in February totaled $100 million. By the number of copies sold (not by money), Anthem became the best-selling game of the month on consoles. At the same time, IAP sales in all versions of the game amounted to $ 3.5 million.
It is not known how many copies of Anthem were sold. However, now it seems more and more realistic scenario for the sale of 5-6 million copies of the game in the first 37 days, voiced by Electronic Arts before the release.
Earlier, NPD also reported that in February Anthem became a bestseller in the American market. According to analysts, its launch was the second most successful in the history of Bioware. Only Mass Effect 3 earned more in the first month from the company’s games.
