Roblox has reported on the results of the second quarter of 2021. Almost all key indicators have grown strongly, but it still suffered losses. In April-June, Roblox lost $140.1 million — almost twice as much as at the same time a year ago.

The main figures of the second quarter:

  • in total, the company’s loss increased by 96% compared to 2020;
  • at the same time, Roblox earned a record $454.1 million for the second quarter. This is 127% more than last year;
  • receipts (bookings) reached $665.5 million. Growth by 35% in annual terms;
  • the company’s cash flow also increased — by 70% to $168 million.;
  • on average, 43.2 million people used the Roblox platform every day in the second quarter — 29% more than at the same time in 2020. As the company explained, this was achieved due to two factors: the growth of DAU outside the United States/Canada (by 42%) and DAU growth among players over the age of 13 (by 46%);
  • during the reporting period, players spent 9.7 billion hours on the platform, which is 13% more than in 2020. The reasons for the increase in time are the same as for DAU: an increase in engagement outside the United States/Canada (by 27%) and an increase in the number of players over the age of 13 (by 29%);
  • The ABPDAU indicator (average revenue from one active player per day) was $15.41. According to the company, this is “slightly higher than last year.”

Roblox did not make a forecast for the third quarter of 2021. Instead, she disclosed data for July.

The main figures of July:

  • in the first month of the third quarter, the company earned about $161-163 million, an increase of 111-113% year-on-year;
  • receipts (bookings) amounted to $221-224 million — 19-21% more than a year ago;
  • On average, Roblox had 46.6 million daily active users in July. Growth by 28% in annual terms;
  • during the month, users spent 3.8 billion hours on the platform, which is 22% more compared to 2020;
  • ABPDAU was $4.75-$4.81. This is 5-7% less in annual terms.

Simultaneously with the publication of the report, Roblox said that she had bought the authors of the Guilded game service. This is an online platform that resembles Discord – in it gamers can communicate via audio, video and text messages.

Apparently, Roblox plans to add the Guilded service to its own platform. The price and terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
