In the new season of Destiny 2, the sale of loot boxes will be closed. So Bungie studio will make the system of random rewards more transparent for players.

How it worked

  • In Destiny 2, the equivalent of loot boxes are bright engrams. They are divided by rarity level and contain cosmetics (including armor coloring and gestures), as well as armor modifiers.
  • There are different ways to get engrams. For example, they fall from random opponents or are bought in the in-game store for silver. Silver is a virtual currency purchased for real.

  • The player can open the dropped engrams for free in the store, and the purchased ones are in the inventory.
  • It is impossible to know in advance what is in the engram. The percentage of loss of rare cosmetics is not specified in it either.
  • There are also seasonal engrams with exclusive items. You can get them by filling out the shooting gallery of a seasonal pass.

What will happen now

“In season 10, we will say goodbye to bright engrams as a commodity. We want players to understand the value of the product before buying it. Bright engrams do not correspond to this principle, said the head of the Destiny franchise, Luke Smith.

It follows from this that there will be no more paid loot boxes with a random reward in the game. At the same time, it will still be possible to get an engram in a seasonal pass. Probably, engrams falling from opponents will also be preserved.

Season 10 of the Worthy in Destiny 2 starts on March 10.

Let’s add that Bungie has followed the path of some developers who have redone the opaque mechanics of loot boxes in their projects. Among them, such games are the “big” PUBG and partly Rocket League (everything is not so simple with it).
