Nintendo will introduce a subscription to another game. By the end of the week, this type of monetization will appear in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp
Nintendo announced this via an in-game notification.
There are few details:
- the subscription will appear on November 21, its price is not yet called;
- as in Mario Kart Tour, the subscription will be combined with other monetization mechanics;
- there are at least two subscription plans. One gives bonuses to the player’s camp. Another adds a warehouse for items and gives the player a fortune cookie (you can use it to get these items).
Nintendo will tell the rest on Wednesday, November 20, in a series of videos, writes The Verge.
Recall that in September, the company released Mario Kart Tour. It is monetized through gacha, IAP and Gold Pass subscription. The latter costs $4.99 and gives the player access to unique cosmetics and a closed mode.
This approach to monetization was a kind of experiment. As a result, the income of Mario Kart Tour was positively assessed by Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, separately praising the subscription. Now it has been decided to introduce the mechanics into an early, less earning project.
Note that Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, like Kart Tour, was created jointly by Nintendo and DeNA. The launch of the game was the least successful during their collaboration. In the first nine days, she earned only $10 million. Plus, Animal Crossing collected cash more slowly than all Nintendo mobile games.
Last year, the title still managed to enter the top 50 highest-grossing games in Japan. But it never became a hit comparable to another game of these companies — Fire Emblem Heroes.
