Cristiano Ronaldo’s face on the cover of the FIFA 18 football simulator can increase sales of the game by 10%, according to the analytical company SuperData.
“Depending on the level of online popularity, a well-known athlete is able to help raise sales of the game by about 10%. The number of subscribers plays a crucial role, because the audience of sports games remains more or less stable,” said Joost van Dreunen, CEO of SuperData.
Ronaldo was considered the highest paid footballer in the world for four years in a row. Instagram Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts of the football player have a total of 262 million subscribers.
The FIFA franchise consistently generates revenue for EA, largely contributing to its financial results of $1.1 billion last year. The audience of the game series is about 21 million players.
