Former EA Executive Director John Riccitiello told Casual Connect what mobile developers should do today.

John RiccitelloThere are only two tips.

Firstly, do not “run” for console graphics.

In his opinion, investing in graphics alone, without understanding the gameplay, will not lead to anything good. Riccitello compared the current race for “console graphics” among mobile developers to the craze for 3D in the late 90s. Then all companies started making three-dimensional projects, which tripled the cost of development, but did not affect sales. The reason was that at first there were no innovations in the gameplay itself. The situation changed after there were projects whose game mechanics were closely related to new technologies.

Secondly, it strives to create brand games, not just long-lived projects. Few people manage to create one successful project after another. So we must assume that the company will not have more than one hit, and that it will not be able to generate income forever either. Therefore, when the game is on the crest of success, it is necessary to make a brand out of it.

Riccitello believes that games that do not create a brand are not capable of living for decades.
