On December 10, 2009, the iOS version of “Angry Birds” was released. In May 2012, the number of downloads of Angry Birds games exceeded 1 billion. On the occasion of the anniversary, we decided to run through the “milestones of the big flight” again.
The starting game of the cycle, with which, in fact, everything began, was a physical puzzle with simple game mechanics, memorable characters and pleasant art. Over ten million downloads of the game were recorded in the first ten weeks.
In October 2010, a special “festive” version of Angry Birds Seasons was released. The first set of levels was dedicated to Halloween, and then there were additions “based on” Christmas, St. Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day and Easter.
In March 2011, the first “licensed” game about “birds” was released, created jointly with the Fox film company – Angry Birds Rio, timed to coincide with the premiere of the full-length animated film Rio. She reached the ten-millionth milestone in just ten days.
Even more rapid was the start of the next episode of the “bird saga” Angry Birds Space (March 2012), in which the developers sent the heroes into space – it took six days for ten million downloads.
In September 2012, the sworn enemies of the birds, the green pigs, received their own game. Bad Piggies was seriously different from Angry Birds in mechanics (it was necessary to design incredible vehicles to complete game tasks), but, in fact, it exploited a setting that was well known to players.
And finally, most recently, last November, Rovio introduced Angry Birds Star Wars – a killer combination of two of the most popular brands. The game reached the top of the world’s tops just a couple of hours after its release.
We cannot but congratulate Rovio on the birthday of their main project, but we note that everyone is a little tired of the birds. Its creators want new games with new mechanics.
