According to the DigiTimes resource, the Taiwanese company Compal Electronics, a strategic partner of Acer and Lenovo, is drastically reducing the staff involved in the development and testing of tablets.

According to analysts, the reason for the mass layoffs of Compal Electronics employees was the high competition in the tablet market. At the moment, absolutely all vendors have faced this problem. The top three are already firmly established on the pedestal (iPad, Amazon Kindle Fire and Google Nexus 7, respectively), and an increasing number of tablet manufacturers are forced to abandon attempts to compete with them. So, two weeks ago HTC announced that it was leaving the American tablet market.

Now, with the advent of Microsoft Windows RT Surface and Apple iPad mini tablets on the market, the competitive confrontation will become even fiercer.
