The Russian mobile application market earned $160 million last year, according to J’son & Partners Consulting. By 2016, it will grow, according to analysts, to $1.3 billion. Experts are skeptical about this assessment.
According to the results of 2012, the mobile application market grew by 256% compared to 2011 and amounted to $160 million. This is a significant amount, considering that the year of its birth was not 2008, as in the whole world, but 2009.
Analysts have somewhat overestimated the Russian market, Vedomosti writes with reference to the Game Insight company, which believes that revenues from mobile applications in the Russian Federation last year amounted to no more than $ 120-130 million. With Game Insight, according to “Газеты.ги “, representatives of the LinguaLeo service agree.
On the other hand, in Mail.ru Group, on the contrary, consider J’son & Partners’ assessment fair. According to their calculations, the mobile games market alone reached a turnover of $90-100 million in 2012.
J’son & Partners also stated in its report that the growth rates of the Russian market will not be inferior to the global ones (in fact, they were not only not inferior in 2012, but were, on average, higher). So by 2016, the company’s analysts assure, its volume will amount to a significant $ 1.3 billion.
J’son & Partners estimated the mobile app market in the world at $7.83 billion. During the period from 2009 to 2012, its turnover increased 25 times. By 2016, its volume will amount to $65.79 billion.
J’son & Partners called growth drivers:
- increasing the influence of mobile social networks;
- the emergence of a new Windows 8 mobile platform;
- the growth of tablet computer penetration;
- development of mobile payment systems and mobile banking;
- reducing the cost of communication via mobile devices;
- LTE penetration and its positive impact on the mobile application market;
- e-commerce as a driver of mobile consumption growth.
