Every month Metacritic publishes the top ten games for iOS, according to the estimates of the English-language press. Which projects have become the best at the end of this August, read in our material.

Asphalt 8: AirborneReleased: August 22

Price: 33 rubles.

The game is in the first place with a very high score of 93 points based on the results of as many as 12 reviews.

Asphalt 8: Airborne also received a “gold medal” from Pocket Gamer, and Touch Arcade gave it five points out of five.

However, not all users were satisfied with it. They are not difficult to understand. Although the game is paid, you have to fork out for cars in it, and they are not cheap. For the IAP “Set of the best cars” you need to pay 3290 rubles.

Mikey HooksReleased: August 8

Price: 66 rubles.

The platformer from BeaverTap Games has harvested as many as 15 reviews, receiving an 89-point score based on their results.

Reviewers of 148Apps were among those who enthusiastically accepted the game. They stated that Mikey Hooks is one of the most polished projects on iOS.

RymdkapselReleased: August 1

Price: 129 rubles.

The art-house strategy about space, in which flat design strangely merged (what we see in iOS 7, Android 4 and Windows Phone 8 can be attributed to it), nostalgia for the games of the early 80s, Tetris and Populous from Peter Muline, fascinated many.

According to the results of 14 reviews, the game received 87 points.

Plants vs Zombies 2: It’s About TimeReleased: August 15

Price: Free

A month ago, Metacritic already placed the game in the top, based on reviews based on the Australian and New Zealand versions.

But then a decent 89 points were based on only 7 reviews. A month later, the project has 33 reviews. The average score of Plants vs Zombies 2: It’s About Time for them is 86.

Knightmare TowerReleased: August 1

Price: 99 rubles.

The vertical cartoon runner, which unexpectedly has a lot of Doodle Jump in its combat mechanics, received 9 reviews and 84 points.

He is colorful and charismatic. However, the price of the project is much higher than the one for which we are used to buying games of this kind.

An Alien with a MagnetReleased: August 1

Price: Free

Five reviews, including a gold medal from Pocket Gamer and 4.5 points out of 5 from 148apps.

In the overall standings – 79 points. Anyway, we do not share the enthusiasm of our British colleagues. The game is a fun arcade game with a relatively unusual, but far from the most ingenious gameplay.

Kid TrippReleased: August 1

Price: 33 rubles.

How would the original Mario Bros. look and play if Shigeru Miyamoto’s project was a runner?

Probably, this is the question that Michael Burns asked himself, creating an eight-bit hardcore Kid Tripp project. It’s not a fact that the developer was understood by the masses, but journalists warmly accepted the game: 8 reviews, the average score is 79 points.

PivvotReleased: August 1

Price: 99 rubles.

The main sin of reviewers: love for unusual applications.

From the point of view of the market, they almost never consider games. The musical Pivvot, which looks more like a representative of the demo scene than a full-fledged game project, is a perfect example of this. You can fall in love with the game (cool electronic music, unusual graphic video sequence), but the market is unlikely to accept it. The game is too far from the masses.

12 reviews, the total score is 77 points.

Brick RollReleased: August 1

Price: 66 rubles.

Another very controversial project in terms of submission, which to our surprise gathered good reviews.

More precisely, three good ones (at 148apps, TouchArcade and Arcade Sushi) and a couple of medium ones. The game is made in the style of “we did it for the Nintendo DS, but then decided to try our luck on iOS“, so it looks terrible, but it is not without charm. In total, five reviews and an average score of 75 points.

There were not enough good games for a dozen. The rest of the game projects released this August received a total of less than 75 points. This is already a game “four”.

Unfortunately, the English-language press coldly met projects such as Pirate Legends TD (an excellent clone of Kingdom Rush, whose only problem is IAPs that oversimplify the passage) and Ultima Forever (old-mode MMO, perfectly translated into Russian), and, for example, Sheep Happens was not included in the selection of the best, because it did not she scored the numbers necessary for the top reviews (only two publications have written about her so far). The latter applies, most likely, to many other decent games.
