In 2012, tablets overtook laptops in sales in the USA and Canada. In 2013, this trend will become global, according to NPD DisplaySearch.

In general, the market of “tablets” in 2013 will grow by 64%, compared with the results of last year. The growth catalysts will mainly be 7- and 8-inch tablets (by the latter, most likely, NPD meant 7.9 from Apple). They will account for 45% of the devices sold.

The share of the 9.7-inch iPad on the market this year will more than double, amounting to 17% versus 40% in 2012. But in general, Apple’s presence in the tablet market will not change: about 23% of the global market will be captured by the iPad mini.

The Chinese market will account for 27% of all tablets sold in the world, also predicts NPD. Most of the devices purchased in this region are manufactured or will only be created by small local companies ready to offer ultra-cheap solutions.

In total, by the end of 2013, 240 million tablets and only 207 million laptops will be sold in the world.
