Today, the first smartphones based on Firefox OS have appeared on sale. The budget models Keon and Peak are designed for programmers developing web applications for the open OS from Mozilla.
A small Spanish company Geeksphone has put on sale devices running on Firefox OS. These are Keon for $119 (together with European VAT – $143) and Peak for $194 ($234). We wrote in detail about their characteristics here. According to the manufacturer, “these are powerful preview devices (yes, that’s what they called them), which have everything you need to start developing software for the OS.”
We had a suspicion that the last phrase meant the following: if developers want a competitive platform to appear on the market in six months / a year, it’s time for them to buy these devices and independently edit the Mozilla operating system.
Devices on Firefox OS from ZTE, Alcatel, LG Electronics, Huawei and Sony will appear only in a year.
You can purchase Keon and Peak here.
