We have not once or twice heard players sigh, dreaming of the appearance of full-fledged hardcore titles on mobile platforms. And so it happened – Shadowrun Returns, a role-playing game with an action a la XCOM, was released on iOS today.

The release of the project, which scored $ 1.8 million on Kickstarter a year and a half ago, took place on PC this summer. The release of the mobile version has been postponed many times. It was originally planned that it would appear almost in the spring of 2013.

Shadowrun Returns, as we have written more than once, is an isometric role–playing game a la classic Fallout of the late 90s with a large number of dialogues and a little less battles. The combat system of the project is taken from the latest XCOM Enemy Unknown, whose mobile version was released last June.

The PC version of Shadowrun Returns was received by the gaming press, judging by the average rating on Metacritic, restrained (76 points). Perhaps this is due to the fact that the campaign coming with the project is largely a demonstration of the power of the game editor.

It is assumed that fans of the project in the future will independently create bright campaigns based on the game editor, which the developers will then integrate into their game. As for the mobile version, such content is likely to be distributed as an IAP.

The very quality of the port leaves much to be desired. Yes, the game’s UI was originally created with an eye on tablets, yes, the navigation in the game is done at a good level, but there are performance problems on the third generation iPad. In addition, the developers have stung the game backgrounds, so that you can now look at them without tears only when you zoom out as much as possible.

Another thing is that domestic users do not have to choose. The only alternative to Shadowrun Returns – XCOM from Firaxis has not been released in the Russian App Store.

The price of Shadowrun Returns is 329 rubles.

P.S. Already now the game is at 316 positions in the US box office top.
