Samsung has introduced the first smartphone running on Windows Phone 8, thereby beating Nokia, which was going to be the first to demonstrate the gadget on this platform on September 5.
The new device by design subtly resembles the first, tightly-knocked Samsung touch phones, like Super Star. The front has a large 4.8-inch Super AMOLED screen of the flagship Galaxy III, under which there are three buttons (the central one with a Microsoft flag and two touch buttons). The back of the smartphone, which was named ATIV S, is metal.
The characteristics of the device today are not impressive, but, especially considering the low demand of Windows Phone 8 for resources, they do not cause a smile. The smartphone processor is dual–core, operating at a frequency of 1.5 Mhz. The RAM of the device is 1 GB. The rear camera is 8 megapixels, the front one is 1.8. The battery capacity is a solid 2300 mAh.
What Nokia will present in a couple of days is not clear, but Samsung has shown a surprisingly interesting model, which, if Microsoft does not mess up with the system (as was the case with WP7), and Samsung does not skimp on advertising (which is unlikely, given the imminent release of the Galaxy Note II), can become a hit.
