Yesterday in London, the world’s largest manufacturer of mobile phones and smartphones presented its new flagship Samsung Galaxy S III: a totally new design, four processors, a 4.8-inch screen and 1 GB of RAM on board. Will he be able, following his predecessors, to blow up the mobile device market?

To begin with, let’s figure out why we write about it, because, to be honest, it’s not really our format to write about new devices (the exception is new Apple devices). The fact is that over the past year there have been only two solutions on the smartphone market, two flagships that competed relatively equally for the user’s attention and wallet – these are the iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S II (Samsung Galaxy Note also showed itself on the good side). And although the South Korean company acted as a catch-up party, its devices were able to get as close as possible to the conditional throne occupied by the iPhone compared to other manufacturers.

Moreover, it is Samsung’s flagships that have been setting the bar for almost all devices on the Android market for the second year. It is with an eye to the experience of this company that LG, Sony and other manufacturers assemble their own devices. In fact, if Samsung, which according to the results of the first quarter of 2012 became the world leader in the sale of mobile phones (25.4% of the market) and in the supply of smartphones (30.6%), competes with Apple, then everyone else competes with Samsung.

So the announcement of the new flagship Android market, which took place yesterday at 22.00 Moscow time in London, we could not get around. However, despite all the pomp and, to be honest, no less intrigue than, for example, with the latest iPad, he was somewhat disappointed.

It’s probably all about personal perception, but the new design of the gadget is definitely a step back. If HTC has hit the bullseye with the latest series of One devices, creating one of the most visually delicious smartphones on the market, then Samsung has created far from a masterpiece.

On the other hand, given the screen that has increased to 4.8 inches (the success of the Note did not go unnoticed for the company) with a resolution of 1280×720, which will definitely become the face of the new device, it is very possible that the South Koreans will get away with a weak design.

The Samsung Galaxy S III has a quad-core Exynos 4 Quad processor beating in its chest, whose clock frequency, however, is still unknown at the moment (most likely 1.4 GHz). RAM – 1 GB. The smartphone runs on the fourth version of Android – Ice Cream Sandwich, weighs solidly – 133 grams (almost like an iPhone 4S). In thickness, it is also close to Apple’s competitor – 8.6 mm versus 9.3 mm. Samsung Galaxy S III is equipped with two cameras – the main one for 8 megapixels and the front one for 1.9. The gadget’s battery is designed for 2100 mAh.

One of the interesting features is Smart Stay technology, which tracks users’ eye movements and the ability to transfer information almost instantly when touching with another phone that supports the S Beam function, as well as an advanced Siri analogue – S Voice.

The device will appear on the European market at the end of May. In Russia, according to analysts, the release will take place in June, and its price will be about 30 thousand rubles.
