On Thursday, the Hidden Runaway game will appear on the virtual shelves of the mobile “apple” store. This is the second original project of the Spanish studio Pendulo Studios on iOS in the last six months.
Another thing is that, unlike the quest Yesterday released in June, the new game uses the well-known IP franchise Runeway for PC players.
For reference, Pendulo Studios has been developing quests for PC since its foundation in 1994. However, success came to her only in 2001 with the release of Runaway: A Road Adventure. Since then, the company has managed to release two more games under this brand. Hidden Runaway, it turns out, will be the fourth.
But what is curious is that Hidden Runaway, which continues the story of the relationship between the main characters of the trilogy Brian and Gina, is the first non–quest project of the Spanish studio, not a classic adventure game, but the so-called HOPA (Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure), a la “Dreamland” or “Mushroom Era”.
This “lurch to the side” against the background of the company’s fiasco on Kickstarter with a set of money for Day One and Yesterday’s not the best indicators on iOS (the project was held in the cash American top 200 for iPad for a little less than a week) can in many ways be regarded as an attempt by the company to adapt to modern market conditions.
Using a well-known brand together with proven gameplay on the iOS platform may well bear fruit. Although from the financial side, it would be much more logical to port the original series.
The publication of Hidden Runaway is handled by BulkyPix. The game will cost $5.99.
