Sony has published an open beta of the PlayStation Suite SDK, which allows developers to create games and applications for both Android devices and PS Vita.
With the help of a software package that can already be downloaded for free, developers will be able to see how productive their projects will be on Sony-certified devices.
Developers will also have access to a large number of original tools, including graphics and sound libraries, UI compositors, physics engines and examples of 2D and 3D graphics.
Sony announced the PlayStation Suite immediately after the announcement of the PS Vita and Xperia Play in January 2011. This step clearly indicated that even then Sony understood the threat the mobile market posed to handheld consoles (however, even then no one doubted the victory of the first one).
The official release of the SDK will take place a little later. An annual subscription that allows developers to sell their content on the PlayStation Store will cost $99.
