Today Apple has opened a new category “Food & Drink” in the App Store. The company has not commented on the opening of the new section, but apparently this is due to a large number of applications of this subject.

In the American app store, the new App Store category already has 2,800 paid and 4,000 free iPhone apps, as well as 1,200 paid and 1,000 free iPad apps, most of which have been moved from the category with the vague name Lifestyle. By the way, most likely, the competition there should be lower for some time.

Recently, Apple has already updated the App Store: changes were made to the existing version of the store, as well as applications were added for the upcoming launch of iOS 6. The editors of the Macstories website report that the new category is only a small part of a large—scale update and redesign of the mobile App Store.

Now the App Store offers more than 650,000 iOS apps, of which 225,000 are for iPad. To date, consumers have downloaded a total of more than 30 billion applications, respectively, payments to developers exceed $ 5 billion. The ever-growing number of apps in the App Store forces Apple to regularly work on improving the store.
