App Annie company together with IDC presented the next quarterly report on the situation on the market of mobile and portable games. We suggest you to get acquainted with its version in Russian. 

  • For Android 58% of the market;
  • All Others are BlackBerry and Windows Phone;
  • The total base of smartphone devices used in the world in the 3rd quarter of 2013 grew to 1.3 billion;
  • The base of tablets has about 200 million.

  • The total install base of devices at the end of the 3rd quarter amounted to about 200 million;
  • Sales of full versions of games (retail + digit, but not including games distributed only in numbers) increased by almost 50% compared to the previous quarter.

  • Games account for about 40% of all downloads in both stores (less than last quarter);
  • At the same time, user spending on mobile games for Google Play is gradually increasing, but for iOS it is falling;
  • This drop applies to both smartphones and tablets and iPod touch.

  • Revenues from games for portable consoles increased in the 3rd quarter for seasonal reasons;
  • Another growth driver was a number of hit releases for the Nintendo 3DS.

  • In the Asia-Pacific region, they started spending more on games for iOS;
  • In Western Europe, the share of user spending on games from Google Play has increased;
  • In the US, the cost of portable consoles has increased very noticeably.

Key findings of the study:The share of non-gaming mobile apps has grown significantly on iOS in the quarter;

  1. The share of sales of portable consoles and games for them grew significantly in the 3rd quarter. A particularly strong jump was observed in the United States. However, they have not grown up to the level of sales of Android games;
  2. Android is not so far behind in terms of popularity (as a game console) from Apple, but Google Play games earn three times less than games for the App Store;
  3. Kindle Fire is much more popular than Android tablets in the States;
  4. A lot of mobile players in the USA play on more than one device.
