The Finnish company Jolla, which develops the mobile OC Sailfish, the heiress of MeeGo, has announced the release of its SDK installers for Windows, OS X and Linux.
By installing the SDK with their help on a PC with Windows, OS X or Linux, developers will be able to familiarize themselves with the Sailfish OS user interface and its modules. In addition, they will have at their disposal an application template for this OS. Included with the installer is also documentation on the Qt framework and the Sailfish Silica API.
The toolkit itself was released in February during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Jolla plans to transfer the Sailfish OS license to mobile device manufacturers, as well as create customized branded versions of it for third-party companies. Moreover, the team intends to create a Sailfish-based smartphone under its own brand. Although Sailfish will fully support Android, Qt and HTML5 applications, it is also possible to develop native programs that fully utilize the features of the Sailfish user interface.
According to rumors, the first Sailfish-based phone under the Jolla brand will be released on the eve of Christmas this year.
