Digi-Capital Investment bank has published another review of the state of investments in the global gaming industry for the first half of 2012, and made very interesting conclusions regarding the mobile segment.
So, according to researchers, 51 transactions totaling $3 billion were recorded during this period, while 113 transactions totaling $3.4 billion were recorded for the whole of 2011.
Thus, the average “issue price” for one transaction increased from $30 million in 2011 to $59 million in the first half of this year. In terms of the number of mergers/acquisitions, the mobile games industry was ahead. However, the most expensive deals are still made on the market of social and MMO games.
The situation with investments in startups has noticeably decreased. If 2011 was a record in this sense – 152 transactions worth $2 billion – then this year investors’ interest in them has somewhat subsided.
In the first half of the year, 73 transactions worth $481 million were carried out. This means that the average investment in startups has decreased from $13 million to $7 million. It should also be noted that the mobile sector dominates here both in terms of the number of investments and their average volume.
