Today, the mobile market is dominated by iOS and Android. Apple has a monopoly on the first, Google dictates the rules for the second. Vendors lack room for maneuver – at least one more successful OS.

It may well become Firefox OS, the support of which was announced at MWC by a number of manufacturers, including Sony, LG, Arcatel and ZTE. However, according to Richard Yu, executive director of Huawei (the company ranks third in the world in terms of smartphone shipments), it is not worth pinning high hopes on the platform yet.

Whether the user will accept it or not is still difficult to say,” Yu said in an interview with AllThingsD. He believes that it is too early to talk about the success of Firefox OS in the market. The support of the ecosystem from users will be a decisive factor in the race.

Yu also noted that now many suppliers are advocating for Huawei to start creating a device on the Tizen platform, which is currently overseen by Samsung. And, according to the latest press releases, the Chinese company has decided to support the “Korean choice”.

The first smartphones based on both Firefox OS and Tizen will appear this year. By the way, the first devices on Jolla OS and Ubuntu may also enter the market in 2013. If the platforms turn out to be interesting, a real platform war may begin in 2014.
