The British trade association TIGA has published a new study demonstrating that the gaming industry in England is “young, independent and mobile.”
According to TIGA, 37% of English studios are currently working on games for mobile platforms. Moreover, 53% of the studios that entered the market in 2011-2012 create gaming applications for smartphones and tablets. Also, most of the young teams – 83% – are independent.
“The British gaming sector is young, independent and mobile,” said TIGA Executive Director Richard Wilson.
“More than half of all studios in the UK have been founded in the last four years. The majority of studios are independent: there are 34 publishers and 414 independent studios in total.”
“The overwhelming number of developers prefer to create games for mobile gadgets: two-fifths of all studios make them specifically for smartphones and tablets,” Wilson continued.
“The attractiveness of the mobile sector is clear for developers. This market is saturated and continues to grow: smartphone sales in 2013 will reach 1 billion.”
