Last Friday, Facebook announced the purchase of the Parse cloud service. The transaction amount was $85 million. Why is Facebook and what threatens the mobile industry – read in our material.
To begin with, a few words about the service itself. Parse is, in fact, a whole set of tools that allows developers to forget about problems with servers and social integration. The American service puts all application data in the cloud, and also allows you to quickly integrate social media support into your game.
The purchase of Parse, according to Techcrunch, speaks to Facebook’s desire to play a decisive role in the mobile application industry. At the moment, Zuckerberg’s social network is important for mobile app developers as a social tool that increases the virality of applications, provides a high level of user retention, and allows for the introduction of PvP elements. This is a lot, but it’s not enough for Facebook.
Having Parse will allow Facebook to offer and promote new services. Of course, not for free. Thus, the social network will receive another monetization tool in addition to advertising, and will also bind developers to itself more strongly.
An authoritarian picture of the future is being drawn, really. The developer wants to make tournaments in the game (+ the ability to add friends) – Facebook. The developer does not want to mess with servers, but to store all the information about the application in the cloud – Facebook. The developer wants to place an ad – Facebook.
Is it good or bad – that’s the question?
