The Chinese company Tencent has acquired part of the Epic Games studio, known in the mobile market thanks to the Infinity Blade dialog.
The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. It is only known that a smaller share in the capital of a Western company was acquired, which is the developer of one of the world’s leading engines for consoles of the current generation – Unreal Engine, as well as franchises such as Gears of War and Unreal Tournament.
According to Epic Games employees, despite the deal, the company will remain independent. Tencent’s investments, according to studio head Mike Capps, will help Epic Games in creating new games and technologies.
Tencent, which intends to expand its area of influence to the Western market, is mainly engaged in e-commerce and online advertising in its home market.
