In the wake of the box office success of Match-3, EA decided to invest in the development of its main casual IP – in Tetris.

Today it became known that the company is developing a Tetris Monsters role-playing battler, the combat component of which will be the familiar gameplay of Tetris. At the moment, the release of the game is planned only in Japan.

As far as can be understood from the trailer, filling a horizontal row in the game glass brings bonuses to the user’s characters. You can draw an analogy with Puzzle & Dragons, where putting three or more crystals in a row allows the player’s monsters of the appropriate color to attack.

Given the budget genre, the project looks expensive. Three-dimensional cell-shading figures act as character cards and their opponents. Against the background of Blood Brothers or GUNDAM AREAWARS (12th place in the Japanese box office chart of iPhone games), this looks at least an innovation.

Will the game have enough unexpected combat mechanics and beautiful graphics to get into the Japanese top? We will find out about this very soon. The launch of the project on iOS is scheduled for the end of this summer.
