In the third quarter, the Umeng analytical company noted an increase in the number of iOS and Android-based mobile devices in China, a decrease in the number of jailbroken devices, and an increase in the number of user sessions in applications.
In the third quarter of this year, analysts from Umeng counted about 200 million Android and iOS active gadgets in China, of which 140 million devices account for the first platform and 60 million for the Apple OS. In total, the number of devices has increased by 125% in six months.
Importantly, the number of hacked gadgets, on the contrary, has decreased. For example, about 42.2% of iOS devices are currently jailbroken in China. For China, this is quite a positive indicator, considering that in the second half of last year there were more than half of them. Umeng explains this trend in reducing piracy by the opportunity for Chinese users to pay for purchases in the App Store with local bank cards.
The most significant growth is observed in the number of sessions in applications – by 223% only compared to the last quarter of 2012, which is directly related to the increased number of devices. But 60% of all sessions have a duration of less than three minutes.
It is also worth noting the fact that it is very difficult to keep Chinese users in the application. However, this is compensated by the fact that in the future they spend more time on games than anyone else. Their favorite genres of games on devices are action (22.1%), casual games (17.3%) and puzzles (14.9%).
By the way, according to the company’s survey, 79% of Chinese will prefer iPad to all tablets.
