According to forecasts of the analytical company Strategy Analytics, in five years the total number of downloaded applications for all mobile devices will be 350 billion.
In the period from 2008 to 2017, 350 billion downloaded applications will account for $52 billion. Analysts calculated the total revenue from all mobile devices based on the fading interest of users in paid applications and the transition to f2p rails. Importantly, by 2017, 91% of all apps will be free.
Now the iPad accounts for 56% of all downloaded tablet applications, analysts say. And in the next 5 years, Apple tablets will retain this leading position.
But as for applications downloaded to smartphones, analysts predict the opposite situation. By 2017, downloads to Android smartphones will amount to 45%, while iPhone will account for only 22%.
