Over the past year, the Apple company has lost more than a quarter of the tablet device market in the United States. Now it has a little more than 50%.
It was to these conclusions that the Pew Internet & American Life Project came after conducting a survey among tablet owners. If in 2011 81% of device users had an iPad, then by this year the number of such devices has decreased to 52%.
Analysts attribute this to a significant increase in users as such. If in July 2011 the number of adult tablet owners was 11%, then in August 2012 they were already 25%. Yes, of the respondents this year, 68% have purchased a tablet in the last 12 months.
This growth, in turn, is due to the availability (and great popularity) of budget solutions from Google on the market. The share of the Android platform, standing at 48% of American tablets, was distributed as follows: 21% of the market for the Kindle Fire, 8% for the Samsung Galaxy. Unfortunately, the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD tablets were not presented in the questionnaire, so it is impossible to say what share of the Android market is behind them.
It is interesting to compare American results with international ones. According to the same Pew, the iPad still dominates the world: 61% of the market is behind it, and Android tablets have only 31%.
A little more than a thousand people participated in the American Pew survey.
