The success of Puzzle & Dragons and Rage of Bahamut is something of a carrot for mobile developers. Many of them today think that it is worth creating a card game and the money will come into their hands.
One of these developers, apparently, is American McGee, who has been trying for the past 14 years to repeat the success of his debut game American McGee’s Alice.
The other day, an outstanding visionary and at the same time an average game designer announced that his studio Spicy Horse Games is developing a Hell Invaders card butler. However, American described his new project somewhat differently, namely, as “an action game with elements of a collectible card game.”
But according to the basic mechanics, the game is close to the Japanese progenitors: the user collects cards that gain experience by fighting with opponent cards. The cards are divided into three classes (melee, ranged and healing) and four “schools” (fire, water, wind and earth). Also, each card has its own characteristics and a place for skills that modify them.
Having collected and pumped the deck in the game campaign, the user can take part, according to Venture Beat, in asynchronous PvP battles. For winning in multiplayer, the player receives special points that raise his rank. The rank depends on what kind of reward the user receives in fights.
However, other news resources are confident that the game, on the contrary, will take place in real time. Polygon calls McGee’s new project RTS altogether. Moreover, judging by the first screenshots, this version seems closer to the truth.
We will find out how things really are in the fall of this year. The game will be released on iOS tablets and, possibly, as suggested by Pocket Gamer, on Android. Free-to-play monetization will be used in Hell Invaders. For the money you will have to buy new boosters and passivity abilities.
