Unity continues to actively buy up tech startups. This time, she acquired the SyncSketch platform, which allows artists to work remotely on a single project. The size of the transaction and its terms are not disclosed.

According to Unity, the purchase of SyncSketch will help it expand the “cloud” capabilities of its engine. Recall that three months ago, the company bought the streaming service Parsec for $ 320 million for the same purpose.

When buying both studios, Unity proceeded from the same concept. Due to the pandemic, many companies were forced to change the format of their work. As Unity Vice President Marc Whitten pointed out, “remote” has become the new norm. In turn, SyncSketch and Parsec help teams to work effectively and interact in a new reality.

“We believe that over time, more and more specialists will work in a distributed format,” Witten commented. — “It doesn’t matter if we are talking about a team that switched to a hybrid model, or just a group of friends who decided to do something together, regardless of where each of its members is. The future belongs to creative teams that will work on big projects even when not all employees are close to each other.”

SyncSketch was launched in 2016. It is a cloud-based platform for collaboration between artists, animators and visual effects specialists. It supports the creation of 2D and 3D models, as well as videos. SyncSketch’s clients include Frontier and Activision Blizzard.

Recently, Unity has become more active from the point of view of M&A. At the beginning of last month, it announced the purchase of Weta Digital for $1.62 billion. Also recently, its assets have included OTO, Interactive Data Visualization and Pixyz Software.
