The Chinese colossus is preparing for another major deal. Tencent will acquire a key Techland package. This was announced by Pawel Marchewka, the founder and permanent CEO of the Polish company.
At the same time, he did not tell about the terms of the future deal (according to Marchevka, it is still in the process), nor about how large the share of the company that will come under the control of Tencent is (it is only clear that it is more than 50%), nor about the commercial side of the issue.
Marchevka wrote about the partnership on the official Techland website. He called the deal “a new chapter in the history of the company,” which has remained independent throughout its thirty-year history.
“We reserve the rights to our intellectual property and creative freedom, and we will also continue to operate in the direction in which we deem it necessary. As for me, I remain in the position of General Director,” Marchevka stressed.
At the moment, the studio is developing an unannounced role-playing action in the open world. The game will be created based on the company’s new original franchise. Of its details, only the fantasy setting was mentioned earlier.
The company also plans to continue developing its key brand — Dying Light. But even here there are no details. The third part of the series has not been announced. However, in April of this year, the game developers interviewed their Twitter followers about what profession the protagonist of Dying Light 3 should be.
Techland’s latest game is Dying Light 2. It was released on PC and consoles in February 2022. In the first month, the game sold 5 million copies (with a price tag for the basic version of $ 59.99 in the USA).
