Bohemia announced the deal on the company’s blog.
The developers did not say exactly how many strategic investments they received from Tencent. At the same time, they noted that the studio will maintain its independence and continue to work under the leadership of the former team.
As part of the agreement, Tencent will help the Czech studio launch Ylands, a platform for creating mobile and PC games, on the Chinese market.

Recall that last summer there were already rumors about the purchase of Bohemia by a Chinese colossus. However, then the owners of the studio denied the information and stated that they were not ready to look for strategic partners yet.
The current deal is not the first for Tencent in 2021. Two weeks ago, the giant became a minority shareholder for the French Dontnod Entertainment, responsible for the titles Vampyr, Twin Mirror and the Life Is Strange series. On the same day, Tencent invested in the Russian developers of the Atomic Heart — Mundfish shooter. And a week before that, Tencent bought a controlling stake in the Canadian studio Klei Entertainment (the creators of Don’t Starve).
